Every feature, from the resin bezel surrounding the entire watch to the special bezel design that guards the buttons to ensure that shocks are never transmitted directly to the module if the watch is dropped, is an essential part of the inevitable form required to provide full protection from shocks. With all waste trimmed away, and combining the "flexibility" to absorb shocks with the "solidity" to protect the module without fail, this form realizes the ultimate functional beauty. It is the starting point of every G-SHOCK and the final form that every G-SHOCK pursues.
The face design harkens back to the DW-5000, the first G-SHOCK model born in 1983. The original colouring and layout of elements, including the red line, the brand colours and the positioning of the SHOCK RESIST Logo, have all been reproduced and the face has been finished in the classic G-SHOCK design.
The square shape, the ultimate shock-resistant design, has been maintained since G-SHOCK's birth in 1983. But even though the shock-resistant shape remains unchanged, the details are constantly evolving.
⦁Button guard structure
A special shape has been adopted to guard the buttons and make sure they are never struck directly if the watch is dropped, at no matter what angle.
⦁Forged case back
The case back is forged to give it greater strength than conventional press-moulded case backs can achieve. The high-quality impression is further enhanced by the muscular modelling and precision engraving this process makes possible.
⦁Band shape
We employed a curved shape for the root of the band. This form enables the band itself to play a role as a shock absorber to ensure that the back never receives a direct shock.
We succeeded in downsizing and slimming the module by reducing the size of the IC and electronic parts and decreasing the clearance in the internal structure. As it evolved to incorporate more advanced functions, the shape of the GW-M5600 actually approached the original design more closely and achieved the slimmest profile of all the square models we have manufactured to date.
