Qualcomm and CASIO Sign
3G Worldwide Subscriber License Agreement
January 26, 2006, Tokyo, Japan -- CASIO COMPUTER CO., LTD. today announced a license agreement with QUALCOMM Incorporated (headquartered in San Diego, California, U.S.A.). The agreement expands the license granted by QUALCOMM to cover products implementing any of the 3G CDMA standards. The agreement was signed in December 2005.

CASIO has been active in developing CDMA-based products including cdmaOne and CDMA2000 1X/1xEV-DO since it first entered the mobile phone market in 2000 (as of April 2004, CASIO has been developing and manufacturing mobile phones at Casio Hitachi Mobile Communications Co. Ltd., one of its group companies). Currently, the company ships CDMA-based mobile phones for the Japanese and Korean markets, incorporating QUALCOMM's patented technology under license from QUALCOMM.

This license agreement grants CASIO the right to use certain QUALCOMM patented technology to manufacture and distribute worldwide any 3G-standard handsets, including existing CDMA2000 phones and WCDMA/UMTS phones, which are expected to be used throughout the world, as well as TD-SCDMA mobile phones. With the inclusion of 3G standards in the license agreement, CASIO can now utilize its own technologies and development environment to deploy a wide range of mobile phones regardless of region or communication method.

With CASIO's own product planning ability and advanced technologies, in addition to the technology licensed from QUALCOMM, CASIO aims to create mobile phones that are unique and will endure in the competitive world market.
