TOKYO, June 1, 2007— Casio Hitachi Mobile Communications Co., Ltd. (Casio Hitachi MC) and its parent company, Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced today that they have begun supplying the G’zOne TYPE-S, a compact, stylish mobile phone with excellent water and shock resistance, to Verizon Wireless in the United States. This mobile phone is Casio’s second model in the North American market.
Casio entered the mobile phone business in 2000, and in 2004 it established Casio Hitachi MC, a joint venture with Hitachi, Ltd., to develop mobile phones. Casio Hitachi MC is known for the attractive, hit products it has developed for the brand, au, a wireless provider owned by Japan’s KDDI Corporation. Last year, in a bid to expand its mobile phone business, Casio Hitachi MC began supplying the G’zOne TYPE-V, a water and shock resistant mobile phone that has passed all of the rigorous tests required by US standards, to Verizon Wireless. The company’s first entry in the North American market has been well received.
This second G’zOne model maintains its predecessor’s water and shock resistance, but adds Bluetooth® technology for convenient, hands-free microphone use. With a sporty form featuring a unified antenna and protector plus a compact, stylish design, the G’zOne TYPE-S aims to please a broad range of users, including both men and women.
With this latest product for the North American market, Casio Hitachi MC continues to strengthen the overseas expansion of Casio’s mobile phone business.
The US mobile phone market has about 200 million subscribers.* Verizon Wireless is the largest cellular phone company in the country using CDMA technology, with 60.7 million subscribers.
