Casio Computer Co., Ltd., went public today with its "Charter of Creativity for Casio," a guideline designed to ensure that every member of the Casio Group practices Casio's corporate creed of "creativity and contribution."
Casio's philosophy of "creativity and contribution" was first articulated by the company's founder, the late Tadao Kashio, and it has guided the company ever since. Expressing Casio's commitment to "contributing to society by offering the kind of original, useful products that only Casio can," this short phrase has become the inspiration and guide to action for the daily work of all employees.
With the advent of the borderless economy, the evolution of the Japanese legal system, and the rapid development of information technology, excellent corporate governance has become increasingly important. Companies must ensure legal compliance, meet social expectations, and operate and maintain proper management systems. The Charter of Creativity for Casio is designed to enhance employee awareness of these issues and ensure that the company continues to contribute to society through its uniquely creative corporate culture. The Charter is expected to foster both understanding and application of the philosophy of "creativity and contribution."
The process of formulating the Charter began in April 2003 with Casio's Corporate Reform Project, which had the objective of clarifying the company's corporate philosophy. On June 1, 2003, the anniversary of the company's founding, the three-chapter Charter of Creativity for Casio was issued. Following that, the company drafted the Casio Common Commitment, which outline specific standards for employee behavior under each part of the Charter. With this addition, the full Charter of Creativity for Casio has now been completed. The Casio Code of Conduct has also been added, outlining standards of daily conduct for employees including respect for human rights, strict separation of company and personal business interests, environmental protection, and social contribution.
In full confidence that all employees will faithfully implement the Charter of Creativity for Casio and the Casio Code of Conduct, Casio has decided to make these key guidelines public by posting them on its Web site today.
Casio will continue to strive to ensure that all employees fully adhere to these principles and standards, using a variety of means such as information sharing via in-house newsletters and the Casio intranet.
