Let's carry out the experiment
Attach the distance sensor at the top of the slide as shown in the illustration, and made observations of his/her motion while he/she slides down the slide.
Examples
We have measured the displacement y (cm) during the x (second) period using the EA100 when Bill slides down the slide, 2.5 m high and about 5 m long as shown in the illustration.
Answer the following questions.
1. Taking in the data measured by the EA100, we have a position-time graph of the data as shown below.
Are x and y directly proportional?
2. Fill the following table by using the data of the graphic calculator.
Time x (second) 0 0.01 0.02 0.03 0.04 0.05 0.06 ... x
Distance y (cm) 0
x2 0 0.0001 0.0004 0.0009 0.0016 0.0025 0.0036 ... x2
y/x2
3. How does y change when the value of x is doubled, tripled, quadrupled, and so forth?
4. If we take the values of y/x2 (x 0) into consideration, is there a relationship of a direct proportion between x2 and y?
