| Q1. |
Why can't I establish a USB connection? |
| A1. |
Windows 2000 Users |
If USB is not activated when you connect the USB cable after installing the USB driver from the bundled CD-ROM |
With Windows 2000, installing the USB driver from the CD-ROM that comes bundled with the camera records an
information file (usbdsc.inf) in the Registry, and installs the standard Windows 2000 USB driver.
Note that any of the following conditions can cause a question mark or exclamation point to appear in front of the
driver name (?CASIO QV DIGITAL, !CASIO DIGITAL CAMERA, etc.)
| o |
Connecting the USB cable to your computer without first installing the USB driver from the CD-ROM that comes
bundled with the camera
| o |
Installing the USB driver incorrectly |
| o |
Interrupting installation of the USB driver part way through |
This indicates that the USB driver is not installed correctly. Re-install the USB driver to eliminate the question mark
or exclamation point.
| Important! |
| Before changing any settings on your computer, be sure to back up or make a record of its current settings so you
can return to them, if necessary. Incorrectly configuring computer settings can result in failure of your computer to
start up properly, or in malfunction of applications and drivers. Be sure to read the user documentation that comes
with your computer before changing its settings. If there is something you are unsure of, contact your computer's
manufacturer. |
| 1) |
Use the USB cable to connect the camera to your computer. |
| 2) |
Turn on the camera. Open "My Computer" and check to make sure there is no icon indicating a USB connection. |
| 3) |
On the "Start" menu, select "Settings," "Control Panel" (Figure 1), "System" (Figure 2), "Hardware" (Figure 3),
and then "Device Manager" (Figure 4).

In the list of device drivers, do you see any CASIO driver name with a question mark (?) or explanation point (!) in front of it
(Figure 5)?

Turn off the camera.
| o |
With some camera models, the power switch may be disabled. In this case, disconnect the USB cable. |
| 6) |
Does the CASIO driver name with the question mark or exclamation point (?CASIO QV DIGITAL, !CASIO DIGITAL CAMERA, etc.)
disappear from the "View devices by type" list (Figure 6)?

o |
The CASIO driver name that disappears from the "View devices by type" list is the one causing the problem.
| 7) |
Turn the camera back on or reconnect the USB cable.
| 8) |
Select the problem CASIO device driver (?CASIO QV DIGITAL, !CASIO DIGITAL CAMERA, etc.), and then
click [Uninstall] (Figure 7).

After confirming that the problem CASIO device driver is deleted, turn off the camera (or disconnect the USB cable), and then restart your computer.
| 11) |
Install the USB driver from the bundled CD-ROM. Do not disconnect the USB cable linking the camera to the
computer until installation is complete. After installation is complete, restart your computer and turn the camera
back on (or reconnect the USB cable). This causes the "Updating hardware information database" dialog box to
appear, indicating that auto setup is being performed.
| o |
If you already have the USB driver that comes on the bundled CD-ROM installed, turn on the camera and connect it to your computer.
