A-a :
If you are using your computer's built in IrDA port
1)
Make sure the built-in IrDA port is enabled.
Some computer models have a built-in IrDA port whose settings can be configured using a special utility or by changing BIOS settings. If you have such a computer, you should use the setup screen of your special utility to change the setting of the built-in IrDA port from "Disabled" to "Enabled." The actual procedure you should use to check and change the setting depends on your computer model. See the documentation that came with your computer or contact the manufacturer of your computer for more information.
A-b : If you are using the PAD-2B 9-pin serial IR adapter
1) Is the PAD-2B cable connected securely to your computer's serial port?
Firmly but gently push the connector into the port to make sure it is plugged in as far as it will go.
2)
Use the following procedure to check the port number where the IR adapter is connected and the IR transceiver name.
1.
Select [ Start ] arrow [ Settings ] arrow [ Control Panel ].
2.
Double-click the [Network] icon.
3.
Select the [Configuration] tab.
4.
Double-click [Generic Infrared Serial Port or dongle], and then click the [Advanced] tab.
5.
Select [Serial Port] and look at the COM port number where the IR adapter is connected. If there are multiple COM ports, make sure you select the correct one.
6.
On the [Property] list, select [Infrared Transceiver] and then select [ESI-9680 JetEye PC].
7.
After you finish making the changes you want, restart your computer.
3)
Check the settings of your computer's COM port.
If your computer has both a built-in IR port and modem, its COM port may be disabled. Use the following procedure to check your computer's COM port setting.
1.
Select [ Start ] arrow [ Settings ] arrow [ Control Panel ].
2.
Double-click the [System] icon.
3.
Click the [Device Manager] tab.
4.
In the Device Manager list, double-click [Ports (COM & LPT)], and check the port number where the PAD-2B is connected. If [Communication Port (COM1)] is indicated, it means that the COM port number is COM1. There may be multiple COM port numbers indicated.
5.
Is [Virtual IR COM port] shown on [Device Manager] - [Ports (COM & LPT)] in step 4? If it isn't, it means the PAD-2B driver is not installed correctly. Uninstall the PAD-2B driver and then re-install it. See the WQV Link 3.0 user documentation for information about uninstalling and re-installing the driver.
4)
Check your special utility/BIOS setup.
If your computer has a special utility for changing the BIOS setup, you may need to use the special utility to change your serial port (COM port) settings.
5)
If you continue to experience problems with your PAD-2B IR adapter after performing steps 1) through 4) above, run the program named pad2comm.exe, which is included on this CD-ROM.
A-c : If you are using the PAD-5 USB IR adapter
1) Is the PAD-5 cable connected securely to your computer's USB port?
Firmly but gently push the connectors into the IR adapter and computer ports to make sure they are plugged in as far as they will go.
2) Use the following procedure to make sure that the PAD-5 driver is correctly installed on your computer.
1.
Select [ Start ] arrow [ Settings ] arrow [ Control Panel ].
2.
Double-click the [System] icon.
3.
Click the [Device Manager] tab.
4.
Double-click [Network adapters]. Check if [CASIO PAD-5] is in the device list. If it isn't, it means the PAD-5 driver is not installed correctly.
5.
Is [Virtual IR COM port] shown on [Device Manager]-[Ports (COM & LPT)] in step 4? If [PAD-5] is not shown under [Network adapters] in step 4, disconnect the PAD-5 cable and re-connect it securely and correctly. The PAD-5 will be detected automatically when connected correctly. Follow the steps provided in the WQV Link 3.0 user's guide to install the PAD-5 driver.
6.
If the PAD-5 is not detected in step 5, perform the steps in the WQV Link 3.0 user's guide to uninstall and then re-install the PAD-5 driver.
[B] If you cannot communicate at all
1)
Check the status of the Wrist Camera.
Your Wrist Camera must be in the "REMOTE" IR COM mode to perform data communication with a computer. Is "REMOTE" shown on the display of your Wrist Camera?
Also, note that your Wrist Camera will not enter the IR COM mode if its battery is low. If you suspect this might be the cause of the problem, try replacing the battery with a new one.
2)
Is some other application using your computer's IR port or serial port?
Data communication using WQV Link 3.0 software will not be possible if your IR port is set up for data communication by a PDA link application (such as ActiveSync for Windows CE), even if that application is not currently running. In this case, you need to disable use of the IR data communication port by the application that is occupying it.
If you are using the PAD-2B 9-pin serial IR adapter, any PDA link, digital camera link, fax, MIDI, or other similar application software or driver occupying a port may issue interrupts that make it impossible for the WQV Link 3.0 software to run properly. In this case, you need to disable use of the serial port by the application that is occupying it.
Important!
After you set up a COM port for the PAD-2B IR adapter, other application software that uses the same COM port may not operate properly even after you disconnect the PAD-2B IR adapter. If this happens, open the Control Panel's [IR Monitor], click the [Options] tab, and then uncheck the "Enable IR Communication" option. In this case, you will have to select (check) the "Enable IR Communication" option again when you want to use the WQV Link 3.0 software.
3)
Check the status of [IR Monitor] on the Control Panel.
If you cannot see [IR Monitor], it means the IR driver is not installed correctly. Re-install the IR driver. Check the points under "[A] Check this first." again.
4)
Put the Wrist Camera in the "REMOTE" IR COM mode and then position the Wrist Camera's IR port so it is close to the computer's IR port.
If "Available infrared devices in range:CASIO WIC 2411/IR" is shown on the [Status] tab of [IR Monitor], it means that the IR driver is installed correctly.
Also, check to make sure that the COM port number specified for [Providing application support on COM port number] on the [Option] tab of [IR Monitor] is the same as the virtual COM port number of the WQV Link 3.0 software [Setup] dialog box.
[C] If data communication stops part way through or is unstablel
1)
Sunlight, fluorescent lighting, or other types of lighting can interfere with IR data communication. Perform your IR data communication in an area that is not exposed to such lighting.
2)
Interference from the remote control units of a TV or another appliance can interfere with IR data communication. Keep such remote-controlled devices away from the IR port of your computer.
3)
Data communications problems can result when the IR ports are not the correct distance from each other. The proper distance required between IR ports depends on the device you are communicating with. See the documentation that comes with the other device for more information.
4)
Are you using a screen saver?
Data communication can be interrupted by a screen saver or other software that forces an interrupt during data communication. In the worst case, such an interrupt can damage your computer or Wrist Camera. Because of this, you should always disable your screen saver whenever using WQV Link 3.0.
5)
Anti-virus software, file utilities, and other resident software can generate interrupts that interfere with or even interrupt data communication. If this happens, quit the resident software applications. See the user documentation that comes with your applications for information about how to quit them. See the documentation that came with your computer or contact the manufacturer of the software for more information.
6)
Notebook computers and other types of computers are equipped with power save functions, which cut off power to the COM ports, making data communication impossible. If this happens, turn off the power save function. For information about checking or changing the status of your computer's power save function, see its user documentation or contact the manufacturer.
7)
Is some other application using your computer's IR port or serial port?
Data communication using WQV Link 3.0 software will not be possible if your IR port is set up for data communication by a PDA link application (such as ActiveSync for Windows CE), even if that application is not currently running. In this case, you need to disable use of the IR data port by the application that is occupying it.
